Haunting of Hill House
There are many important familial relationships within this story. As we have learned, there is a significant theme of family and how it exists in relation to other characters and spaces and objects in a story. Even in society today, the term "family" has greatly changed. Whether the definition includes a blood-related group of people or not, it is important to note that various kinds of families exist. There are different types of families, and in The Haunting of Hill House, they consist of unique pairs and groups of people. One interesting "family" in this story consists of the original occupants of the house which include Eleanor, Theodora, Luke, and Dr. Montague. These four people make one family while living in Hill House as they become bound by their experiences, and continue to inhabit the eerie rooms of the mansion. They play and joke around with another, and listen to each others' stories. They share in activities. At odds, Hill House brought them together and formed an important dynamic of familial relationships within this story.
