I found The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
to be quite interesting. Perhaps because Eleanor was the protagonist and the
book was given from her perspective, I as the reader felt as though I too was
going mad. Toward the end of the book I believe that Eleanor really is consumed
by the house and becomes part of it, Eleanor describes this in page 149 and we
also see it because Eleanor builds this connection with the house in which she
can sense the movements that go on with it. I though it very interesting in the
event that occurs in page 169 in which Eleanor goes around banging on doors and
laughing, it reminded me of the first supernatural event that occurred in which
Eleanor and Theodora witnessed a banging on the door, it made me think that perhaps
Eleanor was becoming one of the spirits from the house, and in essense Eleanor was
becoming more like the house.
