I really enjoyed reading “The Yellow Wallpaper” because
of the imagery. I think that part of what drove her crazy was that her husband did
not believe she was sick and did not believe much of what she said. He treated
her like a child and at one point referred to her as “little girl” (page 8). He
also said, “she shall be as sick as she pleases” meaning that she is sick because
she chooses to be (page 9). Her husband
would constantly tell her that she should not let her imagination run wild. This
shows that since he believes she has a big imagination, she could be faking her
illness. In the beginning of the story, she told her husband that she had a
strange feeling about the house, but he disregarded her comment. The lack of
support from her husband or from anyone may have caused her to go crazy and experience
what she did while on rest cure.
