Paycheck
Out of all the stories we read this week, I found "Paycheck" to be the most interesting. This story is clearly science fiction because we are put into a world that in no way matches our definitions of reality. For example, in our world, at least to my own knowledge, it is not possible to erase certain memories from a persons mind. Also, time travel like behavior is not possible and neither is grabbing artifacts from another time. As readers, we just accept these things are part of reality therefore making this a science fiction story. This story intrigued me the most because the whole plot line was like a mystery puzzle to determine what actually was going on in the construction plant and to save our protagonist. The final turn of events is what really made the story for me. Although it is not explicitly stated, I interpreted it as Jennings and Kelly getting married and therefore Jennings would be in charge of the business and although the family did not like that, they were really left with no option but to agree. This story is so captivating because it leaves the readers constantly asking 'why' and 'what if', which is a huge part of science fiction as a genre.
