The Word for World is Forest

After reading Ursula K Le Guin's "The Word For World is Forest", one of the remarking similarity I first noticed was that of the acclaimed movie Avatar. It almost seems as if it was indeed the prototype for the movie itself. Colonization is a central theme in both of the stories and are both express the effects of genocide on native populations. The human colonizers in the story have no remorse for the natives. They derisively call them "creechies"and routinely participate in the razing of their forest, uprooting of their homes and destruction of their land. The film Avatar is extremely similar to this as the humans also did the same thing to the natives home. I feel like "The Word For World is Forest" is not only in interesting piece to read on its own but it is also a very important literary criticism of colonialism in itself and opens up very interesting conversations.
